The Minister of Police and King Zwelithini addressed crime-related issues and violence in the KZN Province.

On the 20 March 2015, the Minister of Police, Honourable Nkosinathi Nhleko and His Majesty, King Zwelithini Zulu addressed the community of Pongola and the surroundings on the crime-related issues and corruption that is prevalent across the country.

Highlighting on the purpose of the event, the Stakeholder Relations Manager in the Office of the Minister, Mr Molate Moremi stated that the main objective of this event was to discuss issues of crime, the campaign against buying stolen goods and also the regeneration of moral in the country. He mentioned that the fight against crime and corruption will need the community to work with the police. He also clarified that the campaign was aimed at fighting against stolen goods, eliminate the market of stolen goods which is why as the Ministry of Police would want to work with Moral Regeneration, Ubukhosi, Pastors, Religious Leaders and the communities. “The people who are involved and participating in committing crime are related to us”, said Mr Moremi.

Speaking on the message of support by SAPS, the KZN Provincial Commissioner, Lt General Ngobeni thanked the Minister of Police for the initiative of calling Imbizo to address issues on crime and corruption in the Province. “We need to deal with the issue of stealing cows and rape cases,” said Lt. General Ngobeni.

In his speech, the Minister of Police, Honourable Nkosinathi Nhleko said, “We need to work together to fight crime as the country. The community should work with police to fight crime”. The final speaker was His Majesty, King Zwelithini Zulu who pleaded communities not to burn government properties as they will assist them. He concluded by saying traditions play a vital role in building a person with goods morals.
