Minister Mbalula Salutes SAPS On The Festive Season Operations Campaign Successes

The Minister of Police Mr Fikile Mbalula is motivated by the continued efforts by the South African Police Service (SAPS ) in the fight against crime. Following the National Launch of Operation Festive, the SAPS in Limpopo made numerous successes in the fight against crime.

The Intelligent led Joint Operations comprising of various Police Units at focused on areas where TRIO crimes, serious and violent crimes are prevalent in all the Clusters through the stop and searches, roadblocks, raiding of illegal bussinesses including the liquor outlets, tracing of wanted suspects and VISPOL patrols in the shopping malls and centres.

The operations were up and running since the National launch of festive season operations and following successes were achieved :

  • 1317 suspects aged between 19 and 56 were arrested for a series of crimes ranging from housebreaking and theft, theft of motor vehicle, carjacking, house robberies, bussiness robberies, stock theft to possession of firearms and ammunition without licence and stolen properties.
  • 12 firearms.
  • 06 rifles.
  • 67 ammunition.
  • 33 cars.
  • 36 cell phones.
  • 21 cattle
  • 04 goats.
  • 04 TV's.
“Working together with the Deputy Minister of Police, SAPS management and our stakeholders we launched the Festive Season campaign throughout the country. The actions and visible successes by the Limpopo provincial SAPS are amongst the many recording in other provinces. I am motivated by this display of excellence and resolve to fight the scourge of crime in our society. The SAPS will continue to work harder to bring criminals to book,” Minister Mbalula said.

The operations led to the retrieval of assortment of items such as : IT equipment, music system, generators, computers, copper cables, balaclavas and R150 000.00 worth of other goods stolen during buglary bussiness and residential.

The Minister also welcomes the efforts by the KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Transport, Community Safety and Liaison, Mxolisi Kaunda who led a multi-disciplinary law enforcement operation on the Durban South Beach (Point) under the same initiative in the past week.

The operation which involved the SAPS, Durban Metro Police, Home Affairs and Customs started in the early hours of the morning by raiding nightclubs and dodgy buildings.

Police raided five buildings and nine night clubs. Of the nine illegal immigrants who were arrested, six were wanted suspects. Police arrested another suspect for being in possession of drugs and an illegal firearm.

The Minister commends the visible efforts by the Limpopo Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Nneke Ledwaba and salutes all SAPS police officers who continue to make this country proud.
