Human rights watch report on police handling of public protests is generalising and subjective

Earlier today, the Human Rights Watch, at the launch of its 2014 World Report issued a "warning" to the South African government, that human rights are taking a turn for the worst in the country.


Minister Mthethwa offers condolences on latest Mothutlung death, calls on IPID to expedite investigation

The Minister of Police, Nathi Mthethwa has offered condolences to the family of the latest person who died in Mothutlung outside Brits, allegedly after being pushed through a moving police nyala.  The death brings the total number of people who died during the recent violent protest to three.  He has tasked the Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) to expedite and broaden their investigation to include this latest incident.


Minister Mthethwa calls for calm in Brits

The Minister of Police, Nathi Mthethwa has called for calm and respect for the rule of law in Brits, North West where violent protests took place. The violent protests resulted in the death of two people yesterday, allegedly shot by police and the matter is being investigated by the Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID).
