Deputy Minister Cassel Mathale

Mr Cassel Mathale was appointed as the Deputy Minister of Police in the Republic of South Africa with effect from the 30th of May 2019, having previously served as the Deputy Minister of Small Business from February 2018.

Mr. Mathale cut his teeth in politics in the early 70’s as a young activist alongside the late comrade Peter Mokaba and many others. He rose through the African National Congress (ANC) ranks as a youth leader and became a member of the National Executive of the ANC Youth League. He is the former President of SAYCO and has held various positions in the ANC and the UDF. He is affectionately known as cde Chair!

He was appointed as the Provincial Secretary for the ANC in Limpopo and a member of the ANCYL National Executive Committee from 1996 to 1998. He subsequently became the Provincial Chair of the African National Congress.

He served as the Premier of the Limpopo Province since May 2009 until July 2013.

He became a member of the National Assembly since 2014 and has served on the Portfolio Committees on Human Settlements and Science and Technology until his appointment as a Deputy Minister for Small Business Development.

He is a graduate of the University of the Western Cape.
