Deputy Minister Shela Polly Boishelo
Dr. Polly Boshielo was appointed as the Deputy Minister of Police in the Republic of South Africa on the 03rd July 2024. Dr Boshielo’s impressive academic portfolio includes a Master's in Philosophy in Transport Management from the University of Cape Town, a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from the University of Limpopo, a Bachelor of Commerce in Management from the University of South Africa, as well as a Diploma in Road Transport Management from the University of Johannesburg. In April 2025 she was conferred with a Doctorate in Administration from the University of Limpopo.
Before her political endeavors, Dr. Boshielo excelled as Chief Director for Strategy, Policy, Planning, and Implementation of Provincial and Municipality Integrated Transport Plans at the Department of Roads and Transport in Limpopo.
Her journey in politics is marked by a series of impactful roles. Dr Boshielo was sworn in as a member of the National Assembly in May 2014, she has demonstrated exemplary leadership as the Speaker of the Limpopo Provincial Legislature from October 2015 until May 2019, and as the Member of the Executive Council (MEC) for Education from May 2019 until June 2022. She has also held pivotal positions including MEC for Transport, Safety, and Liaison. She also was appointed chairperson of Quality of Life and Status of Women, Youth, and Disability Portfolio from October 2022 until May 2024.
Dr. Boshielo is a member of the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the African National Congress (ANC), she actively contributes to the Peace and Stability Sub-Committee. She was appointed to chair the Organising and Membership Subcommittee.
Her commitment to social justice is further evidenced by her affiliation with the South African Communist Party (SACP) as member of the Central Committee as of July 2022 to date.
Dr Polly Boshielo promises to plough her wealth of knowledge and experience into her new portfolio as the Deputy Minister of Police towards a safer environment for all.
