The Minister of Police on “We are one Humanity Campaign".

Tweefontein, Mpumalanga - The Minister of Police, Honourable Nkosinathi Nhleko hosted an Imbizo on the Campaign against xenophobic attacks on foreign nationals. The event was a one-day session which was held at Tweefontein in Mpumalanga Province on the 09 May 2015. The objective of this campaign was to combat attacks by celebrating African diversity and embracing various differences as well as developing empathy through public participation and public education.

Addressing the community members of Tweefontein and the surroundings, the Acting Premier of Mpumalanga Province, Mr VR Shongwe said, “We have turned against foreigners forgetting that we were once foreigners in our own country. “Foreigners are human beings like us and they are our brothers and we should treat them with dignity” stated the Acting Premier. Mr Shongwe also highlighted that as Mpumalanga Province; there will be a march against xenophobia which will be held in Belfast. He also thanked the President and the Minister of Police for the initiative of fighting against xenophobia.

In his speech, the Minister of Police, Mr Nkosinathi Nhleko stated, “When we say we are one humanity, we mean that we share the same equality”. He spoke to the representatives of foreign nationals and said, “In South Africa, it is not our culture to engage in xenophobic attacks or fight against foreigners. If there are challenges, those issues should be addressed accordingly” said the Minister.
