Civilian Secretariat for Police Service Management is Saddened by the Loss of two SAPS Members to the Covid-19 Pandemic

17 May 2020

The Secretary for Police Service, Mr Alvin Rapea conveys his sincerest condolences to the families and loved ones of the South African Police front liners whom we recently lost in the pertinent call of duty during the CODID-19 pandemic.

The Secretary for Police Service has noted that to date over 370 SAPS members have tested positive for COVID-19 nationally.

The Civilian Secretariat for Police Service mandated to exercise oversight over the police has taken a different posture of supporting the police during this unfortunate period of the lockdown of the COVID-19 pandemic and is engaging with the National Commissioner of the SAPS on the support measures it can take to provide the support.

"We are encouraged by the fact that SAPS management is expediting the procurement of Personal Protective Equipment (PPEs) and we continue to encouraged all SAPS members to adhere to the use of PPEs and ensuring that the protocols to contain and manage COVID-19 are being implemented during operations and at police stations, I also want to wish the Eastern Cape Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant-General Liziwe Ntshinga, a speedy recovery “said Mr Rapea.
